It’s also the busiest time of year. If you’re not careful and intentional with your time and actions, it can turn into a season of hustle and bustle and days on end of eating like Buddy the Elf. Let’s pause for a moment and take a look at a few gifts that you can give yourself this month to keep your body well throughout this season and help you move into the new year feeling good. These little gifts cost you nothing but a little effort, and they yield BIG dividends.
Gifts that Cost You Nothing
1.) Deep breathing
Add deep breathing into your day as often as you can. This practice allows your body to release toxins, it calms your nervous system, and allows you to release stress and anxiety. Our favorite way to incorporate it into the day is by doing it right when we wake up and right before going to bed.
In general, we recommend striving for half your weight in ounces each day. This keeps your body hydrated and helps you to flush out toxins. If the idea of drinking that much water overwhelms you, consider setting a timer and drinking 4 ounces of water every hour. Small amounts of water in regular increments is more beneficial than large amounts at one time!
This is something that is difficult when life is calm and orderly but when things get busy, sleep is often the first thing to go. Make it a priority to get more rest. Your body needs time to heal and renew itself, especially in times of stress and busyness. Give your body the gift of sleep this season.
This might be the trickiest one of all. Everywhere we look there are bowls of candy wrapped in Christmas colors, fun Christmas snacks, and parties to attend with rich foods. It is very easy to over indulge and this is not doing your body any favors. Set some intentions for yourself and maybe decide to pass on a candy bowl or two!
Gifts to Keep You Well
1.) Vitamin D supplement
Most people think of Vitamin C when it comes to staying well, but we want to shine the spotlight on Vitamin D today. Vitamin D activates our immune defenses and a deficiency in it increases our susceptibility to infection. Grab a bottle of good quality Vitamin D today and support that immune system that is working overtime this season.
2.) Colloidal silver nasal spray
This is our secret weapon. This little bottle combines saline and colloidal silver in a convenient nose spray. The saline keeps your sinuses rinsed and clean while the colloidal silver kills any germs or viruses that might be trying to make a home in your sinuses. We carry a great brand in our office. Give us a call if you’d like to try it out!
3.) Essential oils
Essential oils are another thing we keep in our arsenal. They are helpful for many things, from subduing a nagging cough to supporting the immune system. We’re happy to help with recommendations if you are overwhelmed with where to start.
4.) Chiropractic adjustment
Another powerful way to support the immune system is a chiropractic adjustment. Many people only think of the chiropractor when they’ve got back or neck pain. Consider scheduling an appointment with a chiropractor to boost your immune system and get to feeling your best.
Gifts to Help You Pursue Wellness
1.) Dry brush and Algae Cream combo
This is our dynamic duo. We recommend dry brushing to all of our clients. On its own, it helps rid the body of toxins and gets the lymph system flowing. Combine dry brushing with Dr. Spencer’s Miracle Algae cream, though, really boosts the effectiveness. We’ve got these two things in our office, wrapped and ready to give as a gift to yourself or someone you love.
A rebounder is a tiny trampoline specifically designed for exercise. A few minutes on a rebounder gets your lymph system moving, helping to detoxify your body. There are many other benefits, as well, such as weight loss, building bone and muscle mass, and improving sleep. These are gifts that anyone would welcome!
3.) Yoga classes
The benefits of yoga cannot be overstated. It improves muscle tone and flexibility. It reduces stress levels. It stimulates the immune system. Enrolling yourself or someone you love is a beautiful, beneficial, clutter-free gift that will truly benefit the body.
4.) Thermography Session
Our gift list wouldn’t be complete without the mention of thermography! Give the gift of Insight this year. A thermography session can give you a glimpse of what is going on inside your body. Armed with that information, you can enter the new year with a plan to pursue health!
Questions about any of these? Feel free to reach out! We’d love to help! Merry Christmas!
The truth is, while Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s can be times of great joy, the feelings of depression and a negative mood are actually also very common during the holiday season. Additionally, most people will consume around 3,000 calories per holiday meal, which is more than the daily recommended calorie allowance for a grown man. On average, Americans add on 1-2 pounds each November to January. While this isn’t a large number, it will take most of us about five months to ditch those measly couple of pounds!
Does this mean we shouldn’t indulge? Shouldn’t enjoy ourselves? No way! However, let’s take a look at some ways to ensure a healthier holiday season this year, while still enjoying ourselves and the loved ones around us.
